Ellen, a lady on my email list who is very keen to learn the skills of Internet Network Marketing wrote to me yesterday. Here’s what she wrote:
Dear Warren,
I have trouble just putting an email together and every where I look I see that internet marketers are doing nothing but writing all day. There’s articles to write, blog posts to write, endless emails to write, ad copy, sales letters, newsletters. I don’t think I can do this, its all too much. Its like being back in school and I dread the thought of it. It takes me so long just to write an email! And I am always putting off doing the paper work for the business. I hate the thought of it. Is there any way around this?
Ellen
Its true an Internet marketers life is very much the life of a writer but writing is actually not as hard as you might think. Nevertheless there will always be a few like Ellen who find it too hard or taking too long. For those the best solution may be to hire ghost writers through sites like http://elance.com
In any new endeavour there is always a learning phase when at first everything is overwhelming and just a huge ‘soup’ of confusion. Given time and determination however things do eventually start to make sense. Its rather like being taken to a foreign country and having to learn a whole new language.
When I started out with learning the skills of Internet Marketing my worry was how was I ever going to find enough to write about? Or to put it another way, “How was I going to become knowledgeable enough to be able to offer anything of value?â€
This is especially true in the early stages when the internet marketing scene all seems to be such a totally new and strange world with its own technical language full of three letter acronyms, so where do you start?
It all seems sooo confusing. You find there are so-called Gurus, the big shots who appear to be making hundreds of thousands of dollars a month and making outrageous claims about how you can be doing that too in a matter of minutes if you just first buy their product and their $500 a month mentoring program and you can have it all set up and running on auto-pilot and be off sunning yourself in the Caribbean with your laptop before you can say “Here’s my credit card”.
Well eventually, you find out that there’s an awful lot of hype and pure crapola being pushed at you. If you’re lucky you find this out before you waste too much time and money buying product after product and you learn to spot the real ones from the fakers.
You learn that, like any real world business, it takes work and effort and time and commitment and a huge amount of persistence.
And, like anything new, it seems extremely complex at first but it does eventually get manageable. When learning any new skill like how to drive a car or ride a surf board or how to ski, initially there is so much to think about all at once but once you learn the basic skills and through practice they become second nature to you, it all gets a lot easier.
So the trick is to get the basics down first before you attempt to run with the big dogs.
Well, with Network Marketing on the internet one of those basic skills is being able to write.
The Internet is all about Information and information means writing.
So where do I start? What do I write about?…I don’t know anything!!
Well the other thing about the information on the internet is that it’s all about niches, specialised pockets of information. It’s a matter of finding those pockets you know something about or are willing to find out about. The trick is finding which pockets people will pay money for. The great thing is that people will pay money for just about anything you can thing of. Obviously some will be more lucrative than others.
[A great free resource for helping you find which niches are profitable and how to make use of them is the work of Charles Heflin at http://seo2020.com His work is right at the sharp end of research on SEO(Search engine optimization) and LSI(Latent semantic indexing) Googles latest twist in the search for better and better search results. For Network Marketers my suggestion for a good niche is to start with your chosen MLM Company.
Step 1: Read everything on the website, get your head around the compensation plan, the marketing material, all the benefits offered, all the cool features of its products…get really familiar with the whole deal so you know it inside out and upside down.
Step2: Start talking about it, your mlm company, to your partner or a friend or the mirror if no-one is listening.. explain to them how the compensation plan works, what the best products are and why, how the marketing works, what the sign up procedure is, how to get a fast start etc, etc
Once you have got your head around it yourself you will find that you can actually talk about it and explain how it all works..now you are ready for....
Step3: Start writing. Instead of talking to your partner try writing an email to them explaining what its all about.. write several emails each one explaining a different aspect.. Just keep it casual and write as if you are talking to your spouse or a close friend as if you were sitting in the lounge or in a café, or leaning on the bar down at your local pub.
Now guess what – each one of those emails is the basis of an article you can post to the article directories and start getting free leads to your landing page. You are on your way!
To get even more ideas ask yourself this question: “If [your mlm company] is the answer what are the questions? Or to put it another way†What are the problems that [your mlm company] is the solution too? Find the questions/problems and write an article about each one and finish up with your link to the landing page of your mlm business.
